Day 365 – The End
Well, here we are at the last post of the project. I can’t believe it! It’s been challenging to say the least, but also rewarding on so many more levels than I could have ever anticipated. What a great experience this has been!
Here are some interesting stats on the project:
- Over the year, I probably averaged about 1.5 to 2 hours per day between taking pictures, post processing, and posting to the photo sharing sites and the blog. That’s an estimated 700 hours (conservatively) time spent with photography this year. To put that into perspective, that is equal to 17.5 work weeks (based on a 40 hour work week).
- Well over 17,000 visits to the blog, and about 30,000 visitors on the 365 photo set on flickr.
- Nearly 900 comments left on the blog.
- During the year, I took well over 15,000 pictures (but didn’t keep about 4,000 of them)
- The number of times I will repeat the 365 photo project (zero!)
Now for the gratitude.
First and foremost, I want to thank my wife Susan for supporting me through this whole process. It couldn’t have happened any other way. Thank you also for being my main “selection judge” on so many days when I couldn’t decide which one to go with.
I also owe a special thanks to my friend and fellow 365’er Dave, who I talked into doing this with me. We made it! Having another photographer involved in the same effort has been invaluable for support, ideas, and feedback. It’s been great!
And a huge thanks to all family, friends, fellow 365’ers and commenters who have followed along through the project! You’ve made this a really great experience for me. I’ve so enjoyed hearing your comments and feedback throughout the year!

Congrats and THANK YOU! Your effort has resulted in some fantastic photography, you regularly supplemented your art with great stories, and as you know also inspired me to finally get into photography in earnest myself. I’ll look forward to keeping up with your next project (do I hear a 52-project anyone?).

No way on that 52 by the way! However, the new photo blog should good, in that I will be journaling travel and experiences worthy of it in sort of a national geographic kind of way.
Congratulations Steve! What an inspiration you’ve become. You put together one heck of a project. Thanks for talking me into it….but wow, those numbers are daunting. You didn’t mention those a year ago or you would have been solo this year!

Congratulations Steve! I got a chuckle out of today’s picture. Ha. How long did it take you to put the stones together? I’m so proud of you taking on this project. YOU DID IT! I’m just one of many who looked forward each day to seeing what picture you chose and also enjoyed your comments just as much. Another bonus was to see what you and Susan were doing in your lives and seeing all the places that you visited. I’ll miss it.

Thanks mom! It’s funny you mentioned putting it together. That itself is a bit of a funny story.
For starters, where I wanted to build it was not that close to where the stones were, so I had to do many trips back and forth, gathering rocks and taking them over to the spot where I was working on it. The beach was pretty busy that day, so I had plenty of people who were pretty curious to know what I was up to.
I was about half done with it when a wave washed up on shore and rolled all my rocks away, so I had to start the whole thing over again further up on the beach. When I finished, my idea was to wait for a wave to gently wash over the bottom part of the rocks and capture it that way. Before long though, another big wave came in (not a gentle one) and wiped it all out again. I had a good shot already with just the sand, so when that happened again, it just felt like it was time to call it done.
Congratulations on completing your Project 365 — you did it! It was so fun to see where your creativity took you every day, even those days that you searched for inspiration. I’m certainly going to miss both the daily photo and the story. I’m looking forward to your new “unscheduled” blog.
