Day 306 – Surfer Girl at Grandview

While running errands this afternoon, I couldn’t resist stopping by a local surf break to see how conditions were shaping up for the huge surf arriving tonight through tomorrow morning. A low spot on the stairs that lead down to the beach gave me an interesting angle to catch this shot of a local surfer girl.

The forecast is talking about the kind of waves that don’t show up very often, plus we have offshore wind conditions which can create Hawaii-like surf conditions. When this sort of thing happens, throngs of people go to check it out, and I will be among them!

The best breaks are expecting waves in the 9 to 12 feet range tomorrow morning. Remember, wave height is measured from the backside of the wave, so that means 15 to 20 foot faces (conservatively)! Conditions like this are notoriously hard to photograph because waves this size break so far off shore, but it’ll be fun to try.
