Day 304 – Morning Dew

While making coffee this morning, I noticed the morning dew on the grass, and how the sun was making it sparkle. Another bokeh picture opportunity! As I was taking the pictures, I remember thinking, “well, this is a first – being outside lying down on the patio first thing in the morning in my pj’s.” In order to be at grass level, that’s what I had to do, and it certainly wasn’t going to be in the wet grass. I haven’t gotten to that point… yet.

This picture has no post processing other than the application of simple vignetting. The bokeh (or sparkly blurred orbs of light) is from the glistening water droplets on the grass in the background which is out of focus. Focusing up close on your subject and using a shallow depth of field (low aperture number) almost guarantees you this look, assuming you have some shiny bits in the background to work as points of light in your picture. I have fun with this type of picture because you can take the boring and ordinary and come up with something intriguing and different. The everyday, mundane becomes interesting again.

“well, this is a first – being outside lying down on the patio first thing in the morning in my pj’s.”

Not all of us can say the same. 😀

Oh that’s right. When you were in that situation, you didn’t even have pj’s on did you? hehe

Here it is morning frost. Still can be quite cool in the morning sun.

Frost would be beautiful to photograph as well, but it’s not likely I’ll have the chance to try that soon though. Our weather is reversed this year – cool summer, hot fall. Should be 90 again today, which is crazy for November.

I love this one! When I was a kid and had my friends sleep over at my house, we’d all wake up pretty early so that we could run around the field near our house and get our feet wet with the dew on the grass. Your photo is as magical as that memory.
