Day 261 – Potato Chip Rock

We hiked Mt. Woodson today. This thin wedge of rock aptly named “Potato Chip Rock” seems to cheat gravity and is one of the highlights on the hike.

My idea of going on a great hike sort of backfired on me today. This hike is about 40 minutes east of where we live and is easily 20 degrees hotter. We got a late start and ended up doing what would usually be considered as a moderately strenuous hike during the hottest part of the day (in the 90’s). Susan got a heat migraine and Bailey refused to leave shade about half way down. We cooled off in the shade until Bailey seemed willing again, and had to do that once or twice more on the way out, but we finally made it back down; both camelbak’s dry.

Susan thought I should add this photo to the post, so you can see the scale and size of everything. Neither of us were willing to go out on the rock to pose for a photo, so I took this of someone else who was willing to do it.

Wow! I loved the shot, but I agree with Susan! You had to add that second photo, because without out you don’t know the size of that rock! Awesome shot. I feel your pain about the “late” start. I wound up hiking Stone Mountain in Georgia in the heat of a 95 degree day two weeks ago… no shade at all the higher you got.

That sounds even worse. Georgia is humid too, isn’t it?
