Day 230 – Welcome to Encinitas

Every time you travel down the coast highway into Encinitas from the north, you are greeted by this nice big sign. Encinitas is a great town just a few minutes down the road from where we live, and I have featured several shots from around this town already, and I’m certain there will be more. It’s a community with a rich tapestry of personalities and southern California culture.

I wondered if I would have a problem pulling this shot off because the median is tiny. Not long after I got started, a sheriff that passed by flipped around, parked on the roadside and came to check out what I was up to. He asked for ID which I tendered, and I began to wonder if a picture of the citation I was going to get would be a better picture of the day. He quickly handed my ID back to me and then asked if he could see some of the shots. Of course, I let him see what I’d shot so far. He said “Cool stuff, but be careful and don’t be long”, then went on his way.

I partially executed on my idea for this shot, in that I got the sign and the traffic blur I had in mind, but trying to get a long exposure with traffic zooming by so close makes it almost impossible to get a completely stable shot, free of motion blur. I need a better tripod….

I love this shot! Everything seems like it is placed just perfectly to me. I especially like how you made note that a new tripod must be purchased…
