Day 177 – Scottish Highland Games

The Scottish Highland Games were this weekend in Vista, CA. It sounded interesting, but we had no idea how fun this event would be. The “Wicked Tinkers” who played in the beer tent really had the crowd growing and put on a great show. This drummer was feelin’ the music.

Aside from the great music, there were athletes (all in proper kilted outfits) competing in events like the Braemer stone throw, hammer throw, caber toss, and others. Being the dog loves we are though, we really enjoyed the sheep dog herding competition, where dogs and their handlers competed in a timed event on herding 4 sheep through an obstacle course. The park that hosts the event is huge and the herding competition ranged over hundreds of yards of open fields on a hillside and included woods. Never seen anything like it!
