Day 96 – Sunset Tree

The branches of this cut tree against a sunset sky caught my attention tonight. Due to the nature of the light between the darkened foreground and the bright sky, I had to pull this off with a 5 exposure HDR.

The weather has been great, and it’s only supposed to get warmer this week, so it’s likely that there will be more outdoor shots on the way.

I seriously need to have a Photoshop day with you.

Is it photoshop you are using, Steve? I think I would like to go tweak some of my own photos… this is great!

For keeping my collection organized, and for most of the minor adjustments I use Adobe Lightroom 2. The majority of my photos only have a small amount of adjustment. For the heavy duty stuff though, Photoshop is what I use. And, for HDR photos, like the this sunset tree, I use Photomatix ( ).

Photoshop is optional in my opinion. It’s pretty expensive and you can do a lot of the same things with Adobe Photoshop Elements which is more affordable. You can also do some pretty great stuff with, which is an online photo editor.

If you’re even just sort-of serious about taking pictures, and plan to take pictures regularly, Adobe Lightroom is well worth the money. I could not be without that software. It’s the best I’ve seen for organizing and cataloging a growing photo collection, and you can handle 75% or more of all the photo editing you’d ever want to do. It even helps you post your photos to any number of photo sharing websites (like flickr or smugmug).
