Day 56 – Snoozin’ Seal

My Aunt Barb and Uncle LeRoy have taken a hiatus from the Michigan winter and are traveling around the southwest visiting family, and we’ve had the pleasure of entertaining them for the last few days. Today we spent some time touring coastal San Diego, starting from the north county where we live, going from Encinitas, to Del Mar, Torrey Pines and then finally onto La Jolla where we spent some time watching the harbor seals at the Children’s Pool.

We missed the birth of a harbor seal by only two hours, but we did see the newborn playing on the beach with its mother. Unfortunately, I wasn’t close enough to get a good shot of them. Still, there’s plenty of activity to see with the group of seals that hangs out here. The one pictured here found comfort in a shallow tidal pool with what appears to be the perfect rock pillow. It reminded me of a particular line from Bob Marley’s song Talkin’ Blues: “Cold ground was my bed last night, and rock was my pillow too…”

Love this, how cool would it of been to see the baby born… I look forward to seeing this spot when we make it that way! Thanks for taking time with my parents, I’m sure they are having a wonderful time!
