Day 53 – Peacock Feathers

Tonight, I needed to keep it simple; getting ready for some family visitors arriving tomorrow. These peacock feathers have been in my wife’s office for awhile, and I was literally walking around the house looking for an easy subject for today’s photo. It sort of felt like pin the tail on the donkey, but I’m pretty happy with how this came out. The colors really pop in the dark with a direct flash.

Susan and I picked these feathers off the ground at the Leo Carrillo Ranch in Carlsbad some time ago. There’s a large number of peacocks here, and during the spring they have a call that really gets your attention. It’s very loud and it sounds a lot like a woman yelling for help. In fact, one of the park volunteers told us that there is usually a couple of police calls every year from someone reporting screams for help from down in the canyon, and turns out to be only the peacocks calling out during mating season.
