Day 39 – Nature’s Own Fireworks

Having grown up in Michigan, I am always amazed at the amount of flowers blooming in the winter around southern California. Pour a little rain into the ground and it’s like a mini-spring.

These little gems open when the sun hits them and close up every night, and are going off all around my neighborhood right now. Many folks around here call them freeway flowers because they are inexpensive ground cover and you’ll see them lining the freeways. It makes for a pretty nice drive though, come spring time. There are likely going to be several posts throughout the year that deal with floral displays; not necessarily because I like flowers, but because of how they make everything around them look better.
